Djémia Trari presents « Earth, Flesh, Fire and Stars »
What DIVIDES our society? What brings us back together? What future do we want to have together?
The exhibition ZERTEILT shows artistic positions that contribute to current discourses in our society. Even everyday decisions, such as our choice of transport, our clothing or our eating behaviour, are political. The populism that fuels mistrust means that discourses such as migration, the war in Ukraine or the Middle East conflict are hardly ever discussed in public anymore, as opinion leaders are afraid of being cancelled. The demonstrations in favour of peace, a democratic basic order and human rights are hopeful. These are the values that must be defended against division, because a future without a public exchange of opinions is unthinkable and the end of pluralism. With this in mind, the ZERTEILT exhibition invites you to take a stand. Comprehensive spatial and video installations, video games, painting, graphics, photography, sculpture and other media demonstrate this.
« Earth, Flesh, Fire and Stars » is an A2-sized collage that delves into the primal and elemental forces that both unite and divide us as humans on this planet. Crafted from recycled magazine pieces, this artwork brings together four fundamental elements, exploring their influence on our collective existence.
The varied sizes and shapes of the magazine fragments symbolize our divisions, yet their cohesive arrangement in the collage reflects our unity. This juxtaposition aims to illustrate the intricate beauty, complexity, and shared essence of the human experience.
« They walked this earth all by theirselves,
Until their flesh touched each other Feeling the fire,
Looking up at the stars.
How did they ever feel alone? When they walked the same earth, Became the same flesh,
Felt the fire,
Looked up to the same stars? »
